Martha McKinnon - Realistic Yoga and Healthy Weight Loss After 40 for Beginners and Beyond!
Martha McKinnon really didn't know anything about yoga when she decided to give it a try in 1997 to help with severe back pain and sciatica after more traditional treatments failed to help. "I had read about the ability of yoga to help with back pain so figured I would give it a chance. At the time I was out of shape and living a very stressful life. If someone had told me I would end up becoming a yoga teacher I would have laughed."
"It is never too late to begin experiencing the benefits of yoga and healthy eating, regardless of your age or fitness level."—Martha Mckinnon
After several weeks of practice her back pain started to slowly improve. Over time it had such a healing effect on her back and helped in so many other areas of her life, including helping her lose and maintain the loss of more than 25 pounds, she decided to pursue training to become a yoga teacher.
Martha began teaching yoga from the Boathouse at Sugarbush Farm in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin, during the summer of 2004.
In the spring of 2005 she received yoga teacher certification through The Yoga Village with Jordan and Martin Kirk in Scottsdale, Arizona, and continues her education by attending workshops and retreats throughout the country and beyond. One of the highlights so far has been a week-long yoga vacation in Italy where she practiced yoga twice a day in the beautiful Umbrian countryside.
Martha McKinnon is also certified as a massage therapist, holds a BS from Northeastern University. Her other passion is healthy cooking and eating. She has studied cooking in California, Arizona, Vermont, and France and briefly worked as a personal chef, before deciding that she prefers to teach others how to nourish and cook for themselves. She is currently pursuing additional education in the areas of holistic nutrition and nourishment education.
Her main practice now is devoted to helping beginners and people over forty discover the power of realistic yoga and healthy eating through private one-on-one instruction and small group sessions. Martha has studied yoga with Marybeth Markus, Meg Byerlein, John Friend, Erich Schiffman, Rod Stryker, Doug Keller, Desiree Rumbaugh, Noah Maze, Beth Shaw, and Seane Corn.
Martha McKinnon is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance.
